The wine bottle tile saga is still inching along slowly.
Following the bottle cutting I fused the middle part and then cut it to make a 4 1/2″ inch tile.
I then ground the corners off and readied it to be fused again over a fibre heart.
But when it came out it looked a little odd, cloudy and a bit distorted!
Looks like some more experimentation is needed but in the meantime, lovely new glass offcuts arrived today!
Hi, Been looking in to recylcled glass fusing and came across your site. Very interesting possibilities! One of the other pages I looked at said that when fusing bottle glass you only have a 1 full fuse and 1 slump firing after which the glass becomes harder and also begins to devit and become cloudy. Might be helpful for future experiments.
Hi Claire, thanks for your comment. I’ve actually given up on the recycled glass now, certainly as far as bottles are concerned, as I found that it soon becomes hard and cloudy after several firings. I did try making recycled bottle mosaic tiles but ended up with lots of misshapen, devitrified lumps and a cracked mould. The next day I took all my carefully washed wine bottles to the bottle bank. Hope you have more success!
